Watermelon juice is a great choice for a healthy summer drink. Watermelon has many health benefits. It has naturally elevated Vitamin C, A and B also help us to keep hydrated, which is why it makes such a great drink during the hot summer months. Watermelon has a lot of water content, natural sweetness and fibre, so no need to add any preservatives or sugar syrup, to enhance the flavour.
You can find many varieties of watermelon in supermarkets, including some which are seedless, and in many different interior and exterior colours. Pink watermelon is the most common, while yellow and orange versions are easy to find too.
Making watermelon juice is a fun activity to do with kids, which also encourages them to learn how they can make it for the whole family. Once you help them cut the watermelon into slices, it’s very easy for them to prepare the juice in a blender.
Preparation and making time: 10 minutes
Diet: Dairy free, Gluten free, Vegan
Serving: serves 4
Ingredients

- ½ small watermelon
- 2tbsp lemon juice
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Wash and cut the watermelon in quarters. I used a watermelon with seeds, so it is important to remove the seeds prior to cutting into small chunks.
- Place all the chunks in to the blender jar, adding up to ½ of the blender jar
- Blend until the fruit is fully dissolved
- Add some lemon juice.
- Serve with some ice cubes.
Notes: As I removed the seeds before, I don’t have to strain the juice, especially since the pulp has a lot of fibre.
You can add a little water to make the juice blend faster.
You can also add a pinch of salt, if you prefer the taste.
Any leftover juice could be poured into popsicle moulds and placed in the freezer to make watermelon popsicles, another summertime favourite!
