Crostini is an easily prepared canapé for any party and goes really well with wine. It’s a great choice of starter or snack for kids and adults.
It originates from Italy and literally means ‘little crust’ in Italian. You need a perfect baguette to make the perfect crostini.
Preparation time and cooking: 20 minutes
Serving: serves 15
Ingredients
- 1 baguette
- 200g of your favourite finely sliced ham
- 150g cream goat cheese
- 3-4tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 8 figs
- 2 sprigs of mint leaves finely chopped
- ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
- 2tsp honey
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 170oC
- Slice a French baguette into half inch thick slices. You can slice at a 45 degree angle to get a nice shape and more area for the topping. I can get around 12-15 slices from a standard loaf.
- Clean and slice the figs.
- Add balsamic vinegar and honey in a small saucepan over medium heat . Simmer it for 5 minutes until it reduces and thickens.
- Lightly brush some olive oil on both sides of the baguette slices and bake in the preheated oven for 5-6 minutes.
- Let it to cool for 5-7 minutes on a cooling rack.
- Spread creamy goat cheese on top.
- Assemble with ham and sliced figs. Sprinkle with finely chopped mint. Finally, garnish with cooled reduced balsamic vinegar and honey.
You can use parmesan flakes to sprinkle on top of the crostini if you want to add more flavour.
